Minimum System Requirements


Windows Server 2012R2, Windows Server 2008R2, Windows 8.1, Windows 7 Pro (for all of these, only 64-bit versions are supported)

Operating System. Your selection between these will vary based on the size of your network. Please review the sizing guidelines found below for more direction.

Warning About Upgrading Tomcat


Use of any version above 7.0.70 of Apache Tomcat is not compatible with your Content Manager. Scala advises that you not upgrade your Tomcat past this version as a result.

Adobe Flash

Processes Flash files.

Warning about Adobe Flash:


Scala Enterprise only supports Flash through version 10.3.x (e.g. due to issues with significant memory leaks seen in newer versions of Flash.  You might still choose to leverage your older Flash media assets, but we advise shifting to a different media format moving forward. 

IAdea Bridge Server



There is currently no supported version of this software that is compatible with Content Manager. Scala and IAdea are currently working to resolve this issue. We will inform you as soon as this situation has been resolved.

No Longer Supported

As of Release 11, support for the following items has been discontinued:

  • Web Services API's: The Legacy 1.x API's. Customers leveraging the SOAP-based API's will need to migrate to the version 2.x REST-based API's before moving to Release 11 or newer.
  • MySQL databases: Please contact Scala Services to discuss migration or other options. 
  • 32-bit versions of Windows
  • IAdea Bridge Server–this is temporarily unavailable. 
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005

Hardware Sizing Guidelines

Based on the size of the system you wish to create, Scala offers technical sizing guidelines for the physical and virtual server hardware for:



Having less than 50 Players, and 1.5 GB/hour of maximum total network Content updates.
MediumHaving less than 500 Players, and 15 GB/hour of maximum total network Content updates.


Having less than 2000 Players, and 75 GB/hour of maximum total network Content updates. Network-specific design consultation required for deployments with more than 1,000 Players or with large data transfers.

Browser Support

Mobile Browsers:


At this time, mobile browsers are not supported by Scala Enterprise software.


Scala tests and supports accessing Content Manager from the following browsers:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer: Versions 9, 10 and 11.

  • Google Chrome: Version 31 and higher

  • Mozilla Firefox: Version 25 and higher

  • Apple Safari: Version 7 and higher

Caution: Note about Microsoft Internet Explorer 8


Internet Explorer 8 will generally work for use with Content Manager, but should be considered "as is."
