  • 1 LINQ shelf edge device
  • 1 power cord
  • 1 mounting bracket
  • 4 large, shelf-side mounting screws with 4 washers and 4 hex nuts
  • 8-10 small, device-side mounting screws

Starting the Device

The LINQ shelf edge does not have a power button. It automatically powers on when you plug in the power cord.

Restarting the Device

You can restart a LINQ shelf edge player by pressing the recessed Reset button on the back of the unit. This method allows you to reset the player without connecting a keyboard or mouse.

Alternatively, you can restart by connecting a mouse and keyboard to the device and using the Restart option in the Linux operating system. If you want to use this option when the player is currently playing content, first you need to press the Esc key to stop playback. Then, open the Linux system menu, select the power button icon, and select Restart

Buttons on the Device

The back of the device has two buttons:

Reset - Restarts the player.

Recovery - When held down for 10 seconds, the player enters Loader mode so that the operating system can be re-flashed. Generally, this function is used only by Scala before shipment and you should not need to use this button.

Required Items for Setup & Provisioning

In order to set up a LINQ shelf edge, you will need the following:

  • RJ-45 cable for wired networks.
  • 120V or 240V electrical outlet. (Not needed if you are using Power over Ethernet on a 23.1" unit.)
  • As explained in the enhanced provisioning instructions, another device such as laptop, tablet, or phone is needed to complete the one-time provisioning process.
  • If you want to mount the unit on the edge of a shelf, a Phillips screwdriver is needed.

Provisioning & Configuration Settings

Provisioning a new player involves applying several configuration settings to the player so it can function in your Scala environment. To provision a LINQ shelf edge, use enhanced provisioning. Enhanced provisioning makes it easy to provision a LINQ shelf edge through a portal that is accessed on your laptop, tablet, or phone, so that you do not need to perform any setup on the unit's narrow display.

While enhanced provisioning allows you to set up all the basic settings so that the player will function, there are additional configuration settings that you may need to adjust as-needed. For information about all of the available configuration settings on a LINQ shelf edge, refer to Configuring a Linux Player Using Scala Player Configuration (ConfigIC).
